Mike Pine is excited about being the new owner of Pine and Company, CPAs. He brings over 15 years of professional accounting experience, and takes great satisfaction in offering businesses and individuals the quality services of a large firm combined with superior personal attention and proficiency at a reasonable rate that only a smaller firm can offer. He thrives on both proactive tax planning and financial consulting – tax planning, so that you don’t pay more taxes than you are legally obligated to pay; and financial consulting, to help you navigate the ever increasing complexities of the financial realm that exist today. With his extensive professional experience, ethical convictions, and responsive personality, he believes that he and his firm will provide substantial benefits to you and your business.

Mike’s expertise includes, but is not limited to, tax consulting, preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, and business consulting for large and small businesses as well as individuals; real estate, start-ups, and higher net worth individuals; federal and state tax compliance; partnership and corporation investments, real estate, venture capital and private equity; and partnership structuring, complex partnership allocations and agreements.

After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Montana State University and passing the entire CPA exam during his first sitting in 2002, he obtained a Master’s of Professional Accountancy degree (also from MSU). Mike embarked on his CPA career with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Venture Capital & Private Equity group Silicon Valley office in San Jose, CA. Upon leaving PwC in 2005, Mike joined the Texas regional firm TravisWolff, where he focused on partnerships and smaller start-up corporations in the capacity of a Senior Tax Manager. He also spent time with CroweHorwath’s Dallas office before finally determining that he could provide more comprehensive and personalized services to his clients at his own firm. Mike ventured out on his own in late 2008, and has since been serving businesses and individuals, both independently and with other large firms. He functions as a contract CFO for an Oil & Gas company in Dallas, and serves a wide range of clients in areas such as real estate, healthcare, and start-ups. Additionally, he has been training CPA candidates to pass the tax section of the CPA exam with Becker CPA review since 2006. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Mike is a certified Quickbooks Pro Advisor with Intuit.

Mike recently celebrated his one year anniversary with his wife, Bekka, and enjoys spending time with her and eating her delicious home-cooked meals. In his spare time, Mike enjoys reading and studying the bible, and volunteering for Christian non-profit organizations. After travelling to India three times, his heart is heavily vested in one such non-profit, an orphanage in Mumbai called Rays of Hope. He looks forward to continuing to support this orphanage financially and through mini-mission trips on a yearly basis.

Kelli Cheever, CPA

Senior Accounting Manager and Client CFO Services

 

After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1990, Kelli jumped right into the word of public accounting. Her career took her through all levels of public accounting as well as controllership positions in large private companies.

Kelli’s base in public accounting started with small business bookkeeping and tax preparation. She moved into the world of audits. Her audit experience covers multiple entity types and business types. Within the attestation services she prepared audits, reviews, and compilations. These services covered both nonprofit and private companies. Among many others, her expertise encompasses District Attorney offices and city government, wholesalers, REITs, banks, mortgage lending brokers, restaurants, manufacturers, and assisted living and nursing homes.

Kelli also ventured to the private sector where she managed the accounting department as controller. As controller of a magazine distribution company and food marketing company, Kelli oversaw all aspects of accounting including Payroll, AR, AP, Fixed Assets and financial preparation.

As a private controller, Kelli was the Project Lead for a multi-million accounting and human resource software conversion that included an abbreviated deadline to meet Y2K specifications. Her accounting teams encompassed personnel from all over the United States and she enjoyed traveling with her job for a short time. After the conversion, she was named Director and provided a liaison between the Accounting and IT Departments for any and all updates, fixes, customizations, and improvements to the accounting system.

But her true love was in attestation services and she returned to public accounting. As Fractional CFO/Controller, Kelli enjoys overseeing and implementing processes and procedures for small businesses. She also enjoys the project based accounting of compilations. Her experience gives her insight to identify weaknesses in control areas and offers observations to tax planning and financial reporting.

In her spare time, Kelli enjoys traveling with her husband, David and their two teenagers, Joy and Colton. She enjoys scuba diving and football – mainly youth, high school and college. She currently  volunteers her time as Keller High School Athletic Boosters Club President and board member of North Texas 7 on 7 Football League. She is experienced in youth sports administration and has served as  Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President of Football during her tenure at Keller Youth Association. She is actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, volunteering her time where and whenever needed. Kelli enjoys serving the various greater Keller area philanthropies as a member,  with her daughter, Joy,  in National Charity League. She is a die-hard Aggie fan and attends football games with her family whenever she can.

Leslie Kalina, CPA

Senior Accounting Manager

Leslie Kalina has over 15 years of accounting experience. The majority of her time has been spent in the corporate world, especially in the medical industry. Her most recent role was as a Controller of a medical group, a position she held for many years. Leslie graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from University of Texas @ Arlington. She received her CPA certification in 2003, ranking in the top 10 candidates.

Leslie lives in Keller with her husband, Kevin, and two children. An Aggie-by-marriage, Leslie and Kevin have season tickets to the Texas A&M football games. They are kept busy with those games and the kids’ soccer and baseball games.

Gregg Gillaspy, CPA

Tax Manager

Upon graduating from college Gregg started his career with Arthur Andersen’s tax department in St.Louis, MO before establishing his own CPA firm in 1992. He sold his CPA firm in 2006 and has gained exposure to private industry accounting since then. Gregg has the distinction of being certified in two professions, Accounting and Financial Planning, and is one of the few individuals in the country who has passed the CPA exam without having an accounting degree. Gregg’s degree is in Business Administration: Finance & Banking from the University of Missouri– Columbia.

Gregg and his wife Nancy have four boys, one grandson and finally a granddaughter on the way!

Gregg has been involved in most all sports, coached baseball, basketball and football teams his sons have been on and completed a 100 mile triathlon while in college. Gregg also enjoys military “stuff” and anything that flies.

Melissa Stanley

Office Manager

Melissa has several years of experience with customer service and accounting. She has spent the past four years working as a bookkeeper and accounts receivable clerk. She is excited to bring the knowledge she has acquired to Pine and Co and hopes to expand on that knowledge through her career here. Melissa is a native Texan, and she enjoys watching live music, going to church, and spending time with her friends and family.

Bekka Pine

Operations Manager

Bekka is happily married to Mike Pine and soon-to-be the mother of Elijah Pine. Prior to managing the day-to-day operations of Pine and Company, CPAs, she spent some time in the medical field as well as in education, where she ran a culinary department east of the metroplex. She enjoys bringing structure and oversight to organizations she’s involved with, particularly at Pine and Company, CPAs.

In her lifetime, Bekka has visited over 20 different countries in four different continents. She hopes to continue to travel with Mike frequently to India to support Rays of Hope orphanage in Mumbai. In addition, she enjoys smaller trips during the summer to escape the Texas summer heat.

Cindy Lucas, CPA

Senior Associate

Cindy graduated from the University of Texas – San Antonio with a Bachelors of Business Administration – Accounting in 1988 and has been a CPA since 1990. She worked at CPA firms in San Antonio and College Station specializing in audit and accounting before taking a hiatus while moving between Texas, Florida and New Jersey for her husband’s job. She spent the last five years as an accountant and controller at a local energy management consulting firm.

Cindy and her husband, Chris, live in Keller. They have two sons and two daughters. All four are former, current and future students at Texas A&M. When not making trips to College Station, Cindy is involved in swimming as a Masters swimmer and as a USA Swimming official.

Eric Mai, CPA

Senior Associate

Eric is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he completed his MBA degree concentrating in Finance and Accounting. He has been a licensed CPA since 2008 and has been working in public accounting since 2006. His focus has mainly been small to mid-sized businesses and their owners, spanning a variety of industries. His greatest joy is seeing clients’ progress and financial successes throughout the years as he builds relationships with them by providing services that go above and beyond.

Eric loves his Texas country life in a quiet, college town. In his spare time, he enjoys watching movies, playing with his dog, gardening, and cooking with fresh ingredients from his backyard. He also loves outdoor activities, such as mountain biking through the woods.

Lindsey Thomson, CPA

Senior Tax Associate

Lindsey is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she completed the Professional Program in Accounting, with an emphasis in tax, and has been a licensed CPA in the state of Texas since 2003. She has experience in public accounting, working for a “Big 4” firm as well as with smaller local CPA practices, and in the private industry, working in the tax department of a Fortune 100 company. Much of her career has been spent in the area of individual taxation, specializing in expatriate and inpatriate taxation. More recently, she has been working with small – medium businesses and their owners. One of the things she loves most about her profession is helping clients understand the complexities of tax law and how it impacts them & their business. She considers it “time well spent” to make one of the more unpleasant aspects of business ownership, filing and paying taxes, a little less confusing and frustrating.

Lindsey has been married to her one-of-a-kind husband, Stan, for 11 years. They love designing & doing DIY projects, date nights, and (in the summer) lazy afternoons at the pool. They are also avid sports fans & outdoor lovers. They have 2 crazy kids – a red-headed diva daughter, Harper, who is 6; as well as a wild & fearless son, Crosby, who is 3. They recently moved back “home” to Bryan/College Station, where Lindsey was born & raised.

Jodie Edwards

Associate

Jodi began her career in accounting 15 years ago in Seattle, Washington, in corporate accounting. In 2001, she moved to College Station, Texas, beginning her experience in the public sector of accounting. She was originally hired as a bookkeeper, but was given the opportunity to learn how to prepare tax returns, including business and personal returns. She enjoys the challenge of complex problems, learning new things, and helping others to succeed. This flows over into her relationship with clients. Her goal is to help make their businesses the best they can be.

Jodi is originally from a very small town in South East Texas, where she was raised on a farm. She met her husband in Abilene while attending college. They have 3 daughters who keep them very happy and busy. She hopes to obtain a Master’s in Accounting and pursue her CPA certification within the next five of years.

Amy Quatman

Associate

Amy has over 20 years of experience in Accounting. She has loved spending the last 10 years providing accounting support for small businesses. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky.

Amy relocated from Lexington, KY, to the Dallas area in 2015. She and her husband have a fun and energetic son, who is very involved in sports. When they are not at the ball-field, she and her family enjoy biking and kayaking.

Tami Secrest

Associate

Tami has been working as an Accountant for over 11 years, and has recently transferred from Corporate to Public Accounting. She graduated from The University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 2005.

Tami is a native Texan, and lives in Keller with her daughter. She volunteers with her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and with her church. In Tami’s spare time, she enjoys watching sports and staying involved in her daughter’s school clubs and extracurricular activities.

Craig Sequeira

Associate

Craig obtained his degree in accounting from Western Governor’s University. He began his work in corporate accounting, and has enjoyed his transition to public accounting over a year ago. Through Pine and Company CPA’s extensive use of cloud and emerging technologies, Craig is able to use his expertise and awesome client service skills working overseas.

Craig is currently stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, stationed with his husband, an Airman with the U.S. Air Force. In their spare time, they enjoy exploring hiking trails throughout Germany, visiting new cities in Europe, and staying involved with the local military community.

Stephanie Jaeger, CPA

Associate

Stephanie graduated from the University of Louisiana – Monroe with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting in 2005 and then obtained her Master’s of Science in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 2006. After college, Stephanie entered the world of public accounting at a Big 4 accounting firm followed by 10 years in corporate accounting. While progressing in her career in corporate accounting, she obtained her CPA license in 2013.

Stephanie and her husband, Will, are originally from Louisiana. They relocated to Denton in 2008. They have two young boys and are currently expecting their third son. Stephanie enjoys spending time cooking and traveling to Louisiana several times a year to visit family.

Greg Massey

Chaplain

Mike Pine believes that we all share one “Boss” and that everything we do, whether in business or our personal lives, should be done with the goal of honoring Him. With that purpose in mind, we are excited to have Greg serve our firm and our clients in the role of chaplain. He will be hosting Bible studies focused on learning more about our Creator and our relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. Our clients and team members are invited to contact Greg directly for counseling, advice, or simple curiosity. He is also available to join any of our business meetings and discussions upon request.

Greg Massy has pastored Vineyard of Grace Church in Keller since its inception in 2003. Prior to serving VOG, he has served other churches in the Dallas / Fort Worth area in various ministry roles. Greg holds degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently working on a doctorate at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Greg and his wife, Rebecca, are the proud parents of four children. They are also the owner of one cat who needs extra grace. Both Greg and Rebecca are native Texans and love art museums, coffee, traveling, and serving their church.
